SD Libraries Will Lose Funding in FY 2025-2026 San Diego Budget

Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego's final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on June 10.  It will not be finalized until signed by San Diego's Mayor Todd Gloria on June 15, 2025 As a result of previous City Council budget meetings,  the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding.  As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding may result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday... Thank Your for Your Patience

  The end of construction is in sight.   We want to thank all for your patience as we worked to make our library more accessible!  We did have a successful JUNE 27 Used Book Sale.  Thanks to all of the hard sorting and selling work by our wonderful group of volunteers, and to our loyal book donating & buying patrons.  Our next book sale is scheduled for August 1. Gay Baird’s Lemon Bars

Just in time for your summer picnics. While Orlie Baird and Jim Shields were busy organizing the monthly Used Book Sales, Gay brought home-made lemon bars for the volunteers. As she promised at this year's Volunteer Appreciation Pizza Party where Judy McCarty presented her with a plaque honoring her husband,  she has graciously shared her delicious recipe with us. SUMMER READING PROGRAM: June 15-August 15

The theme for the 2015 San Diego Public Library Summer Reading Program, running from June 15-August 15, is READ TO THE RHYTHM. So put on your dancing shoes, start clapping to the beat, grab you favorite author and register online at Summer Reading Program.  Prizes are available at all age levels and may be collected one week after completing your online registration and recording of your age appropriate required reading. SUMMER CRAFTS: Thursdays 4:00-5:00

In addition to the Wednesday afternoon entertainment portion of this year's SRP, we are offering FREE SUMMER CRAFTS for ages 3 and up, on Thursdays from 4:00-5:00.  This craft program will run from June 18 through August 13. Meet Gideon

Inside the San Carlos Branch library stands Gideon watching over the mystery book section where he reigns as our oldest volunteer. In the fall of 2013, mystery book store owner Phyllis Brown retired.  Our Book Sale chair  extraordinaire, Ron McFee, answered her call for the Friends to pick up her donation of 2267 mystery books.
