1000 Books Before Kindergarten

 A literacy program for pre-readers, ages 5 and under.  1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a reading incentive program that encourages parents to read 1000 books to their children before they begin Kindergarten.  The program is based upon evidence from research findings that the more young children hear books read to them, the more prepared they will be to learn to read upon reaching kindergarten. Monday-Thursday: Do Your Homework @ the Library

This program resumes August 26. At the San Carlos Branch, DO YOUR HOMEWORK @ THE LIBRARY for Grades K-8, meets Mondays & Thursdays: 3:00-6:00; Tuesdays & Wednesdays: 3:00-7:00. The program does not meet on school holidays or during Thanksgiving,  or traditional winter and spring breaks. TUESDAYS @ 5-7pm: Learn to Play Chess:

2nd and 4th Tuesdays,  5:00-7:00 p.m: Chess (ages 18 and under) Did you know that playing chess can improve logical thinking skills and increase math ability?  This is a great class for beginners, as well as for students looking to hone their skills.  Student volunteer Luke, is your instructor; he assisted by his dad.  It's lots of fun!
