SD Libraries Will Lose Funding in 2026

Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on in May.  As a result of the April City Council meetings,  the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding.  As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding will result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday and Monday, which will allow  programs and services to remain the same Tuesday-Saturday. Fiction vs. Nonfiction The winner of this summer’s “Battle of the Book Series” face off between fiction & nonfiction is the Elephant & Piggie series by Mo Willems.  We received more than 500 votes over the course of the summer! The Annual Meeting of the Friends of the San Diego Public Library (FSDPL) will be on Saturday, September 14, at the San Diego Central Library @ Joan ^ Irwin Jacobs Common in the Neil Morgan Auditorium.  Registration will open at 9:30 a.m. with a light breakfast available.
