Our 2013 Craft Fairs were such a success, that the San Carlos Friends of the Library planned another one, "JUST AROUND THE CORNER, CRAFT FAIR & BOUTIQUE," on Saturday, October 11, 2014, from 9:00-3:00 p.m. This one promises to be bigger and better than the last. Our next big SCFOL event was “Just Around the Corner, Craft Fair and Boutique," on Saturday, October 11, 204, from 9:00 to 3:00. Due to Library space restrictions, it was held “just around the corner” at the San Carlos United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall located at the corner of Navajo Rd. and Cowles Mountain Blvd. JAC fliers. The final numbers are in. The 2014 Summer Reading Program, "Paws to Read," brought hundreds of children and parents to the Wednesday afternoon programs and the Thursday special "Paws of San Carlos" programs. At the San Carlos Branch Library, 357 out of 591 youth, reached their summer reading goals; as did 71 of the 133 adults. On March 19, about 90 people filled the San Carlos Branch Library to hear the essays and congratulate this year's local San Carlos winners of the Annual Writing for Literacy Library Essay Contest. This annual contest is open to all students, public, private, parochial and home schooled, in grades 4, 8 & 10, who attend a school served by the San Diego Public Library system. Despite the rain, 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014, was a time for celebration. Since 1993, under the tutelage of Jim Shield, the SCFOL Monthly first Saturday Used Book Sales have cumulatively sold over 1M books and raised $400, 000. When the announcement was made, cheers rang out congratulating SCFOL Book sale volunteers.
