The San Carlos Friends of the Library have lost another Friend. John Pilch passed away on May 3, 2016. John was an avid supporter of our branch library and a very involved volunteer. Although the San Carlos Branch Library opened its doors on January 9, 1974, May 15, 1982 marked the first meeting of the San Carlos Friends of the Library. It was founded by 45 area residents with the expressed mission of “focusing public attention on the library’s services, facilities and needs; to strengthen and expand library services; and to stimulate the use of the library facilities as a cultural resource center for the community." This summer marks the 400 anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. In his honor, Shakespeare’s First Folio is being sent on a nationwide tour by the Folger Shakespeare Library (Pictures are by Folger Library). During the tour, it will be on display at only one venue in each State; it can be seen at the San Diego Central Library @ Joan ^ Irwin Jacobs Common from June 4 through July 7.

On Saturday, April 2, 2016, as part of the Grand Opening Celebration of the new San Carlos Branch of Mission Federal Credit Union, Angie Lasagna presented a check for $1000 to SCFOL President Joan Hayes and Treasurer Jerry Hotz. . SCFOL is looking forward to this partnership and will be adding their gift to the San Carlos Branch library’s book, equipment and program Matching Funds.
