SD Libraries Will Lose Funding in FY 2025-2026 San Diego Budget

Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego's final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on June 10.  It will not be finalized until signed by San Diego's Mayor Todd Gloria on June 15, 2025 As a result of previous City Council budget meetings,  the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding.  As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding may result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday... OCTOBER 11: “Just Around the Corner, Craft Fair & Boutique”

Our next big SCFOL event was  “Just Around the Corner, Craft Fair and Boutique," on Saturday, October 11, 204, from 9:00 to 3:00. Due to Library space restrictions, it was held “just around the corner” at the San Carlos United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall located at the corner of Navajo Rd. and Cowles Mountain Blvd. JAC fliers.  Attendees purchased a wonderful variety of handmade items created by 40 JURIED crafters. September 13: Annual Meeting of Friends of the San Diego Public Library (FSDPL)

Mark your calendars.  The annual meeting of the Friends of the San Diego Public Library will be held on September 13, 2014, in the new San Diego Central Library ^Irwin Jacobs Common Auditorium, 330 Park Blvd, San Diego 92101 (this is at Park Blvd and 11th Ave near PETCO Park). Family Fun Fair: a Smashing Success! Check out the Slide Show!

What a party! The “40 & Fabulous, FREE Family Fun Fair, “sponsored by SCFOL, brought over 300 of the young and young at heart to the San Carlos Branch Library on August 23 to help celebrate its 40 years of service to the community. Activities included an author’s fair,  storytelling, hat making, Mad Science and Dr. Who craft corners, carnival games, Sparkles the Clown face painting, and of course-cotton candy and birthday cake! Summer Reading Program Wrap-up

The final numbers are in.  The 2014 Summer Reading Program, "Paws to Read," brought hundreds of children and parents to the Wednesday afternoon programs and the Thursday special "Paws of San Carlos" programs.  At the San Carlos Branch Library, 357 out of 591 youth, reached their summer reading goals; as did 71 of the 133 adults.  A total of 724 of your neighbors registered to read and win prizes this summer.  Our congratulations go to Joanna Dullum, Kayle Gilchrist,... May 1: 17th Annual Student “Writing for Literacy” Grand Award Ceremony.

  On March 19, about 90 people filled the San Carlos Branch Library to hear the essays and congratulate this year's local San Carlos winners of the Annual Writing for Literacy Library Essay Contest.   This annual contest is open to all students, public, private, parochial and home schooled, in grades 4, 8 & 10, who attend a school served by the San Diego Public Library system.
