We also express our appreciation and gratitude for those who have sent us donations in honor or memory of others. In honor of the 40th Anniversary (January 9, 1974-2014) of the San Carlos Branch Library, Domusstudio Architecture Principals Lew Dominy, AIA & David Pfeifer, AIA, donated a new sign depicting the proposed new San Carlos Branch Library and Community Center to be built on the present library's site and extending to the corner of Golfcrest & Jackson. The new San Diego Central Library opened in September, 2013. I am serving on the Oversight Committee for the Library Shop at the new downtown site. The Library Shop is a museum-style gift shop as well as serving as a neighborhood bookstore--featuring an eclectic selection of interesting new titles including contemporary fiction, history, philosophy, and humor. Greeting cards and a large selection of paper ephemera are also be part of the mix. In addition, works by local artists and craftspeople are being offered.

At a recent Board Meeting, SCFOL President, Judy McCarty, presented Steve Dissinger, son of Lois Dissinger, with a life-time membership in the San Carlos Chapter of the San Diego Friends of the Library. Steve honored his mother's Trust provision with a gift of $5000 to SCFOL from the Lois Dissinger Trust. Lois was a long-time Board Member, Newsletter Editor , and supporter of the SCFOL.
