History of the Foundation:
The San Diego Public Library Foundation was launched in 2002 when a group of motivated and concerned community leaders joined to focus their energy and attention on providing private support to build an outstanding library system in San Diego.
Since then, strong volunteer leadership has allowed the Foundation to raise more than $50 million in private funds to augment and support library programs, collections and services. Foundation support has been central to:
Expanding collections throughout the system;

Helping us “Build for the Future,” will be the San Diego Public Library System’s new Director, Misty Jones, who, following the July 1 retirement of Deborah Barrows, has served as its Interim Director. Misty has extensive leadership experience in all aspects of library management, and played an essential role in the decision making process for the design and function of our new San Diego Central Library. The new San Diego Central Library opened in September, 2013. I am serving on the Oversight Committee for the Library Shop at the new downtown site. The Library Shop is a museum-style gift shop as well as serving as a neighborhood bookstore--featuring an eclectic selection of interesting new titles including contemporary fiction, history, philosophy, and humor. Greeting cards and a large selection of paper ephemera are also be part of the mix. In addition, works by local artists and craftspeople are being offered.
