Carleen Hemric retires

We thank the many friends of Carleen Hemric for their contributions to SCFOL in her honor. We wish Carleen a peaceful retirement and thank her for the many years she taught our children, and her thousands of hours of volunteer work for the Friends including the Essay Contest, Board positions, and support of local authors.  Carleen will be greatly missed and a hard act to follow! NOVEMBER 15, 2017: SCFOL Annual General-Membership Meeting

This year's SCFOL Annual General-membership meeting will be held in the Winer Family Community Room and Art Gallery, on Wednesday, November 15, from 4:oo-5:30 p.m. The agenda will include the introduction of 2017 SCFOL Life Members.  They are: Anonymous, Jason Benesch, David Ege, Joseph Frazier, Lesley Frazier, Dr. Stuart Karasik, Barbara Morgan, Barbara Turner, and Jenean Unkefer. OCTOBER 18, 2017: SCFOL volunteer recognition event

Volunteers make the world go round; without them, the planet would come to an abrupt halt.  Joining the SCFOL merry-go-round during the 2016-17 fiscal year were 65, fun, dedicated, interesting, book loving neighbors who volunteered over 4800 hours to organize and sell books for our monthly and Amazon used book sales; keep our chapter membership, volunteer, and financial records; schedule art shows, speakers and authors; create our website, newsletters and newspaper articles; organize special events such as the annual writing... Congratulations CAROLINE BEAIL

City-wide winners of the 20th Annual "Writing for Literacy Essay Contest" were announced April 27, at the Balboa Park Club. Pershing Middle School student, Caroline Beail was one of the four City-wide 8th grade winners. Beail chose To Kill a Mockingbird, as the one book she would save if all other books in the world were to be destroyed. In 2013, as a fourth grader at Dailard Elementary, Beail was also a City-wide winner in that division. She appears here... Continue Reading >
