NOVEMBER 20, 4-5:30 pm: Annual SCFOL General Membership Meeting

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:  You are invited to join us for the General Membership meeting  of San Carlos Friends of the Library which will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, from 4:00-5:30 p.m., in the Winer Family Community Room & Art Gallery.

Patrick Stewart, Lib. Foundation CEO, June 2019

Our keynote speaker will be Patrick Stewart, the new CEO of the San Diego Public Library Foundation. Stewart is passionate about creating literate communities, as demonstrated by his nine years of success as Executive Director of Words Alive, the San Diego literacy foundation. He has had a long career in non-profit management here in San Diego, as well as in Washington, DC. Patrick’s leadership ability, strategic planning expertise, capacity-building skills, and success in building public-private partnerships, positions the Library Foundation to expand on its accomplishments and have an even broader impact in our communities.  Come hear what he has to say about the direction of the Foundation and the San Diego Public Library System.

Also on the agenda is the election of San Carlos Friends of the Library Officers and Board Members for 2020*. All SCFOL members are eligible to have their name placed in nomination, and to vote in this election.  Please contact Joan Hayes if you are interested in being nominated as an SCFOl Officer or Board Member.

SCFOL Chapter updates will be given by SCFOL President-Joan Hayes, and our Branch’s Managing Librarian-David Ege will tell us what is new in the library. Of course, there will be refreshments and fun conversation.

You will also have the opportunity to view the award-winning illustrations of Terry Naughton, which will be on display in the Art Gallery.  Terry, a San Carlos resident,  was an animator with the Walt Disney Studios, working on almost every feature film produced by Disney from 1985-2002.  Some of his credits include, “the Beast” in Beauty and the Beast; “the Genie” in Aladdin,; and “Zazu” in the Lion King.

The San Carlos Friends of the Library was founded on May 14, 1982.     Its first Life Member, Marion Spicer, joined in 1993. In January  of 2014, in celebration of the Branch’s 40th Anniversary year, all previous SCFOL Life Members  and Presidents were recognized on a new SCFOL Honor Wall, located in the Winer Family Community Room and Art Gallery which is updated annually.  Stop by the Art Gallery to read the names of our 117 Life Members. We thank these donors for their dedication and support of our Branch Library.

Life Memberships are just $250 per person.  Friends whose life membership applications are received before October 30, each year, will have their names added to the Honor Wall plaques and be acknowledged during the November SCFOL General Membership meeting.  Join us; become a SCFOL Life Member today!.

Friends’ memberships at all levels are important indicators of our Community’s support of the San Carlos Branch Library; we thank each of you for your annual support.  SCFOL Membership dues and donations along with Monthly Book Sale revenues have allowed SCFOL to send $20,000 to $25,000 annually, to the San Diego Public Library/City of San Diego  Matching Funds– thus doubling your donation dollars to allow the branch to purchase books, materials, and programs.
