In 2018, sixty-three SCFOL volunteers donated a total of 4737 hours to support the San Carlos Branch Library; that is equivalent to 2.4 FTEs. One FTE is equal to one full-time (40 hr/week) employee. 3064 hours were spent sorting your donated books, working at SCFOL's 1st Saturday of every month Used Book Sale or the previous day's FSDPL Members Only sale. The time of year is rapidly approaching when the San Diego City Council and Mayor will be submitting their Budget proposals for the 2019-20 fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2019.
Last month, the Library Commission revealed that the San Diego Public Library system is facing a proposed 3% budget cut next fiscal year. Not wanting to cut programs, we may be see a decrease in the Libraries’ hours of operation.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: The 2018 General Membership meeting of SCFOL was held on Wednesday, November 14 from 4:00-5:30 p.m., in the Winer Family Community Room & Art Gallery. This year's super fun keynote speaker was Disney Artist and Illustrator, Terry Naughton, whose award winning illustrations will be on display in our Art Gallery throughout November. Each year, the Friends of the San Diego Public Library takes time out to recognize up to 4 special Volunteers from each of the San Diego Branch Library Friends chapters, and to THANK each and every person who shares their time and talents by volunteering in some capacity, somewhere within the San Diego Public Library system. We thank the many friends of Carleen Hemric for their contributions to SCFOL in her honor. We wish Carleen a peaceful retirement and thank her for the many years she taught our children, and her thousands of hours of volunteer work for the Friends including the Essay Contest, Board positions, and support of local authors.
