Summer Reading Program Wrap-up

The final numbers are in.  The 2014 Summer Reading Program, "Paws to Read," brought hundreds of children and parents to the Wednesday afternoon programs and the Thursday special "Paws of San Carlos" programs.  At the San Carlos Branch Library, 357 out of 591 youth, reached their summer reading goals; as did 71 of the 133 adults.  A total of 724 of your neighbors registered to read and win prizes this summer.  Our congratulations go to Joanna Dullum, Kayle Gilchrist,... May 1: 17th Annual Student “Writing for Literacy” Grand Award Ceremony.

  On March 19, about 90 people filled the San Carlos Branch Library to hear the essays and congratulate this year's local San Carlos winners of the Annual Writing for Literacy Library Essay Contest.   This annual contest is open to all students, public, private, parochial and home schooled, in grades 4, 8 & 10, who attend a school served by the San Diego Public Library system. Lesley Frazier and Jim Shields reminisce

Lesley Frazier and her family moved to San Carlos in October of 1980.  In the spring of 1982, then Managing Librarian Ruth Gardner decided that the San Carlos Branch Library, which opened on January 9, 1974, needed a Chapter of the Friends of the Library. January 9, 2014 marked our 40th Anniversary-- a banner year for the San Carlos Branch Library.
