We Remember JIM SHIELDS

We are sad to report the passing of Jim Shields on September 25, 2022. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, October 15, 11:00 am, at Fletcher Hills Presbyterian Church.  Jim and his family were fundamental to the organization and growth of the SCFOL Monthly Used Book Sales. Librarian Albert Elguira Retires

Albert Elguira, another favorite librarian, is retiring October 4, 2022.  Albert, an expert chess player, has been encouraging San Carlos youngsters to learn and improve their chess skills at our Chess Club which meets 2nd & 4th Tuesdays from 5-7 pm.  He oversaw the Club's championship competition in Summer of 2022. Who WON Battle of the Genres?

Over the course of the summer, 1104 ballots were cast. The SCBL winner of the Battle of the Genres was … Adventure. It was a close top-two showdown between Adventure and Graphic Novels, but Adventure edged out Graphic Novels by a hair. What is a genre?  Throughout the summer (June 1-August 31) kids were asked to cast their vote for their  favorite genre. 2022–One Book, One San Diego Selections Announced

One Book, One San Diego has announced the selections for the 2022 region-wide read: “The Vanishing Half” by Brit Bennett has been chosen for adult readers; “The Magic Fish” written and illustrated by Trung Le Nguyen for teens and tweens; and “We Are Water Protectors” by Carole Lindstrom and illustrated by Michaela Goade for children.
