SD Libraries Will Lose Funding in FY 2025-2026 San Diego Budget

Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego's final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on June 10.  It will not be finalized until signed by San Diego's Mayor Todd Gloria on June 15, 2025 As a result of previous City Council budget meetings,  the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding.  As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding may result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday... JUNE, 2024: New Branch Library Update, FUNDING SECURED

Many, many THANKS to our SD District 7 Councilperson Raul Campillo for securing, in the  City's Fiscal-Year-2025 budget, $4.7million in funding for the new San Carlos Branch Library. Library Master Plan

In November, 2023, the San Diego City Council approved the new new vision for the SDPL.  The San Diego Public Library Commission and the Library Foundation SD worked together to develop this  MASTER PLAN to provide a long-range vision and strategy for San Diego Public Library facilities, technology, and program investments.  Read the plan HERE. 2023 Updated New SCBL Design

The current updated outside and inside designs of the proposed new San Carlos Branch Library can be seen on the SCFOL website. The new new designs were first revealed to the public at the August 5, 2023, "We bought the Lot" celebration held in the corner lot of Jackson & Golfcrest.  The exterior of the building was designed with the location's surrounding vistas in mind:  Cowles Mountain, Lake Murray, and the Mission Trails Regional Park.  It qualifies as a Gold...
