Who are the San Carlos Friends of the Library? SCFOL is a volunteer organization open to everyone in any age-group. SCFOL is an Affiliate Chapter of the Friends of the San Diego Public Library, a 501 (c)(3) organization, currently numbering 250 members. Fifty volunteers actively support the monthly book sales and 10 serve as SCFOL Officers, Board Members or Committee Chairs.

The Library Shop is not just a well-curated gift and book shop.
The Library Shop is a non-profit book & gift store located in the courtyard of the Downtown Central Library sponsored by the FSDPL and the SDPL Foundation. As the plans for Downtown Central Library were being developed, space was set aside for a Library Gift/Book Shop to be located on site. It features a wide selection of well-curated books, gifts, cards, jewelry, and more.... 
We welcome all SCFOL members to consider volunteering and assisting us in making our monthly USED BOOK SALES bigger and better than ever. Revenue from SCFOL book sales is the major source of funds needed to purchase books, programs and equipment for our branch library. In 2023, SCFOL Volunteers donated 4760 hours to the San Carlos Branch Library! We thank them one and all.

SCFOL annually donates funds, matched by the City of San Diego, to support the SDPL system. The source of SCFOL funds is revenue from your memberships, donations and SCFOL Used Book Sale purchases. These funds return to our Branch and allow for the purchase of materials, programs, and equipment.
ANNUAL Memberships are a real bargain: $5 for Seniors or Youth; $10 for one adult; $20 for a Family (dual adult). Sponsor, Contributor and Patron membership levels are always appreciated. In 1988, Jack and Carolyn Winer made a few stops along the way, but finalized their retirement years in San Carlos in 1987. How lucky we were!
As it happened, their new home was in walking distance to the San Carlos Branch Library. A life long, avid reader and quoter of well-known authors, Winer became a regular figure at the Branch, a member of SCFOL, its Vice-President in 1989, and in1993 he was tapped to be SCFOL’s President. SCBL staff member, Zelia Thompson told us that Jack always took time to talk with the staff and thank them for their dedication...
