This year has been another active and outstanding year for the Friends of the San Carlos Library.
The Friends of the San Carlos Branch Library donated $23,000 to the San Diego Library Foundation. This money is then matched dollar for dollar by the City budget and is designated for the San Carlos Library and can be used for program services, equipment and new books for our collection.

Each year, the Friends of the San Diego Public Library (FSDPL) hold their annual meeting of the entire membership which includes those who are members of Friends Chapters at San Diego's Branch Libraries. The agenda includes the election of the FSDPL Board for the coming year, and the recognition of outstanding volunteers from each branch. This year's meeting will be held on the ninth floor of the Downtown Central Library on Saturday, September 12, from 9:30 to 12 noon.

Just in time for your summer picnics. While Orlie Baird and Jim Shields were busy organizing the monthly Used Book Sales, Gay brought home-made lemon bars for the volunteers. As she promised at this year's Volunteer Appreciation Pizza Party where Judy McCarty presented her with a plaque honoring her husband, she has graciously shared her delicious recipe with us.

Inside the San Carlos Branch library stands Gideon watching over the mystery book section where he reigns as our oldest volunteer. In the fall of 2013, mystery book store owner Phyllis Brown retired. Our Book Sale chair extraordinaire, Ron McFee, answered her call for the Friends to pick up her donation of 2267 mystery books. Our acquisition of Gideon and his 25 outfits became part of the deal. Wednesday, May 20, 2015, the San Carlos Friends of the Library and San Carlos Branch Library Volunteers were recognized with a pizza party get-together in the Winer Family Community Room and Art Gallery. All active 2014 volunteers were invited to attend. There was a special presentation made to the volunteers by City Councilman Scott Sherman's representative, congratulating the volunteers for their hours of service.
