SD Libraries Will Lose Funding in FY 2025-2026 San Diego Budget

Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego's final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on June 10.  It will not be finalized until signed by San Diego's Mayor Todd Gloria on June 15, 2025 As a result of previous City Council budget meetings,  the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding.  As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding may result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday... The new San Diego Central Library opened in September, 2013.  I am serving on the Oversight Committee for the Library Shop at the new downtown site.  The Library Shop is a museum-style gift shop as well as serving as a neighborhood bookstore--featuring an eclectic selection of interesting new titles including contemporary fiction, history, philosophy, and humor.  Greeting cards and a large selection of paper ephemera are also be part of the mix.  In addition, works by local artists and craftspeople are being offered.
