Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on in May. As a result of the April City Council meetings, the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding. As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding will result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday and Monday, which will allow programs and services to remain the same Tuesday-Saturday.

Albert Elguira, another favorite librarian, is retiring October 4, 2022. Albert, an expert chess player, has been encouraging San Carlos youngsters to learn and improve their chess skills at our Chess Club which meets 2nd & 4th Tuesdays from 5-7 pm. He oversaw the Club's championship competition in Summer of 2022.

Over the course of the summer, 1104 ballots were cast. The SCBL winner of the Battle of the Genres was … Adventure. It was a close top-two showdown between Adventure and Graphic Novels, but Adventure edged out Graphic Novels by a hair.

We just received the official numbers for the 2022 SRP; the San Carlos Branch had 1013 registrants and 621 finishers!
Registration for the 2022 Summer Reading Program ends August 31. You must have registered and completed your reading log/activity sheet in order to be eligible for prizes. Prizes will be given out until mid-September or as long as the supply lasts .

On Tuesday, July 19, 2022, seven groups representing the Navajo Area Community met at the San Carlos Branch Library.
