On March 19, about 90 people filled the San Carlos Branch Library to hear the essays and congratulate this year's local San Carlos winners of the Annual Writing for Literacy Library Essay Contest. This annual contest is open to all students, public, private, parochial and home schooled, in grades 4, 8 & 10, who attend a school served by the San Diego Public Library system. Lesley Frazier and her family moved to San Carlos in October of 1980. In the spring of 1982, then Managing Librarian Ruth Gardner decided that the San Carlos Branch Library, which opened on January 9, 1974, needed a Chapter of the Friends of the Library.
