SD Libraries Will Lose Funding in 2026
Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego's final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on June 10. As a result of previous City Council budget meetings, the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding. As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding may result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday and Monday, but will allow programs and services to remain the same Tuesday-Saturday. The library book club meets monthly on the 3rd Thursday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Winer Family Community Room & Art Gallery. The current Book Club Flyer Summer titles are on reserve at the front desk. Just ask the librarian for a copy and check it out. For more information, please call the library at 619-527-3430.

The Chess Club for ages 18 and under meets in the SCBL Community Room, on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, 5-7 p.m. Did you know that playing chess can improve logical thinking skills and increase math ability? This is a great class for beginners, as well as for those looking to hone their skills. 
SCFOL Membership Chair, Kathy Ruiz, joined the San Carlos Friends of the Library in 2018, soon after her retirement from the City of San Diego.
