SD Libraries Will Lose Funding in FY 2025-2026 San Diego Budget

Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego's final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on June 10.  It will not be finalized until signed by San Diego's Mayor Todd Gloria on June 15, 2025 As a result of previous City Council budget meetings,  the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding.  As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding may result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday... This rendition of the new San Carlos Branch library is currently appearing on the sign on the corner of Golfcrest and Jackson.  It was created by the Domusstudio Architects.  They are the design architects for the new library.  Their latest concept is similar to the one shown: a one story 25,000 sq. ft. building covering both the current and corner lots, with approximately seventy parking spaces split between the upper current lot and under the building on the corner lot. ... Joan Hayes-Prez Sez: Summer, 2016

We are busy at the San Carlos Branch Library!  Our Friends of the Library sponsored programs are becoming more and more popular.  To mention a few: children’s programs such as the KIDS' SCIENCE Challenge Island are by reservation only!  We had a full house for Scott Farrell, our Shakespeare First Folio speaker. CONGRATULATIONS Victoria Crisologo

Congratulations to P.H.H.S. 10th grader Victoria Crisologo who was one of the 14 Grand Prize winners of the 19th annual "Student Writing for Literacy Library Essay Contest."  She was one of three local winners, out of 266 locally submitted essays, that competed against 1197 city wide entries.  Victoria received a laptop computer donated by Computers 2SD Kids and additional awards which were presented on May 5, at the Balboa Park Club.   Present for the ceremony were her P.H.H.S. In honor of this Summer's Olympians, the San Diego Public Library has chosen, "Read For the Win" as the theme for its 2016 Summer Reading Program.  There will be prizes along the way for those who read a designated number of books or pages. 2016 SRP prizes is a list of available youth prizes (while supplies last).  Our eligible adult readers may choose free books from a designated "free book rack" or earn a $5 voucher for purchasing books at... IN MEMORY of John Pilch

The San Carlos Friends of the Library have lost another Friend.  John Pilch passed away on May 3, 2016. John was an avid supporter of our branch library and a very involved volunteer.
