SD Libraries Will Lose Funding in 2026

Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego's final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on June 10.  As a result of previous City Council budget meetings,  the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding.  As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding may result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday and Monday, but will allow  programs and services to remain the same Tuesday-Saturday. 2016: “One Book, One San Diego Selection”

The 2016 One Book One San Diego selection is Waiting for Snow in Havana by National Book Award-winning author, Carlos Eire. This rendition of the new San Carlos Branch library is currently appearing on the sign on the corner of Golfcrest and Jackson.  It was created by the Domusstudio Architects.  They are the design architects for the new library.  Their latest concept is similar to the one shown: a one story 25,000 sq. ft. building covering both the current and corner lots, with approximately seventy parking spaces split between the upper current lot and under the building on the corner lot. ... We are busy at the San Carlos Branch Library!  Our Friends of the Library sponsored programs are becoming more and more popular.  To mention a few: children’s programs such as the KIDS' SCIENCE Challenge Island are by reservation only!  We had a full house for Scott Farrell, our Shakespeare First Folio speaker.
