SD Libraries Will Lose Funding in 2026

Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on in May.  As a result of the April City Council meetings,  the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding.  As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding will result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday and Monday, which will allow  programs and services to remain the same Tuesday-Saturday. 2019-2020 Fiscal Year: SCFOL Volunteer Hour Total

During the 2019-2020 fiscal year, July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020, SCFOL Volunteers donated 3406 hours to the San Carlos Branch Library. We thank them for all that they do. Libraries Transform SD Thank You, Dear Library Supporters Thank you! Library advocates made their voices heard loud and clear and let City Council know how crucial library services are to San Diego. At Tuesday's Budget Review Committee hearing of the library budget, more than 47 library advocates called in and 59 submitted online comments asking for no more cuts. In Loving Memory of Lee Ottman

Lee Ottman, was a much loved SCFOL Board Member and a past SCFOL Volunteer Chairperson.  Her renowned sense of humor and ability to make us all laugh will be greatly missed. Aletha “Lee” Grace Ottman died on March 2, 2020, due to complications from pneumonia, at her home in Overland Park, KS.  She will be very much missed by all who were graced with her friendship.  We send our condolences to her family and friends. I thank all of you who supported SCFOL and me during 2019.  I especially thank all of those who serve on SCFOL's Board of Directors and hold Committee Chair positions.  All are continuing to serve in 2020.
