SCBL 2020 Wrap-up with Managing Librarian, David Ege

The year 2020 has been interesting for all of us. We all had to change and adapt our lifestyles to find a way to manage the new normal in our lives. We adjusted our SCBL service in order to still provide library materials to the community; and we are committed to be a continuous source of opportunity, discovery and inspiration. With the COVID-19 pandemic, like everyone else these past months, the Friends of the San Carlos Branch Library have not been able to function as we usually do. The annual year-end SCFOL General Membership meeting was held via ZOOM on November 21.  We welcome five new SCFOL Life Members in 2020: Janet E. Britt, Gordon & Linda Gidlund,Genevieve Matherly, and Jo Matthews; bringing our total to 125 Life Members.  Their names will be added to our Winer family Community Room & Art Gallery Honor Wall display when non-library employees are once again able to use the room. CONTACTLESS PICK-UP SERVICES are available 9:30 am-1 pm & 2 pm-5:30 pm, Monday-Saturday, closed Sundays.  Everyday between the hour of 1 - 2 p.m. libraries will be closed for mid-day sanitation break. November 20: REALM Project Test 6 Results are Now Available

  Since the start of the COVIID-19 pandemic, the question arose, "How long would COVID-19 stay viable on a variety of surfaces?" The REALM Project (REopening Archives, Libraries, and Museums) is a scientific project created to give science based answers to this question. On November 19, the REALM Project 6, "published the RESULTS of the sixth round of Battelle's laboratory testing for COVID-19 on commonly handled materials in archives, libraries and museums. 2020 One-Book-One San Diego Selections

  One Book, One San Diego is our region's premier literary program, presented in partnership between KPBS and over 80 public libraries, service organizations and educational institutions. Now in its 14th year, the purpose is to bring our community closer together through the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. Each year, One Book, One San Diego features a literary work for adults, young adults, kids, and Spanish language readers.
