For me, this year, as President of the Friends of the San Carlos Branch Library, has been one of Challenges and Changes!
The year began with the 50th Birthday Celebration of the San Carlos Branch. The gathering of dignitaries, longtime patrons, friends and members emphasized that our branch is a keystone structure in the San Carlos Community. Our well received youth face painting and craft tables were a huge hit, and patrons enjoyed our historical displays.

WHERE: San Carlos Branch Library
WHEN: During the week to sort donated books and/or on the first Saturday of every month, for 2-3 hours from 9:00 am, until all of the non-purchased items are boxed up and put away. Many hands will make the job go faster.
QUALIFICATIONS: A love of libraries, books, and people. A strong back helps too. We would love to have some young people join us. We would be happy to write college letters of recommendations for teen... 
Annually, the San Carlos Friends of the Library donates to the San Carlos Branch Library. Most of these funds, and those donated by other Friends chapters, are sent to the Library Foundation and annually matched by the City of San Diego, up to the City's budgeted amount.. This is called the City of San Diego Library Matching Fund. Each Friends Chapter's donation plus the Matching Funds, are then distributed back to the branches to purchase books, materials, equipment, and programs...

We welcome all SCFOL members to consider volunteering and assisting us in making our monthly USED BOOK SALES bigger and better than ever. Revenue from SCFOL book sales is the major source of funds needed to purchase books, programs and equipment for our branch library. In 2024, about 75 dedicated SCFOL Volunteers donated 4426 hours to the San Carlos Branch Library! We thank them one and all.
