SD Libraries Will Lose Funding in 2026

Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on in May.  As a result of the April City Council meetings,  the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding.  As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding will result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday and Monday, which will allow  programs and services to remain the same Tuesday-Saturday. May 17: SCBL Robotics Extravaganza

Saturday, MAY 17, 10 am – 1 pm, the robots are returning to the San Carlos Branch Library. In the library’s lower parking lot, at the corner of Jackson & Golfcrest, 18 Robotic Clubs from local schools and San Diego neighborhoods will display, explain and demonstrate their robot creations. JULY, 2007: New San Carlos Branch Library Update

On July 10, 2007, City Councilmember Jim Madaffer hosted a well attended community wide meeting at the San Carlos Library, where architect David Pfeifer, AIA, of Dominy + Associates gave an excellent presentation of the updated plans for the new San Carlos Library to be constructed on the corner of Golfcrest and Jackson. FEBRUARY, 2007: Advisory Planning Committee Discussed New San Carlos Library Construction Plans

On February 27, 2007, the San Carlos Library Planning Committee met with David Pfeifer, AIA, of the award winning architectural firm of Dominy + Associates, to review the updated plans for the new 25, 000 square foot San Carlos library to be constructed at the corner of Golfcrest and Jackson.
