The theme for the 2015 San Diego Public Library Summer Reading Program, running from June 15-August 15, is READ TO THE RHYTHM. Inside the San Carlos Branch library come and meet Gideon who stands watch over the mystery book section where he now reigns as our oldest volunteer. In the fall of 2013, mystery book store owner Phyllis Brown retired. Our Book Sale chair extraordinaire, Ron McFee, answered her call for the Friends to pick up her donation of 2267 mystery books. We thank the San Carlos Area Council for its $500 contribution to the San Carlos Branch Library. Managing Librarian Rita Glick accepted the check from SCAC representatives (from left), Jay Coulter, John Pilch, (Rita Glick) and Mickey Zeichek. CONGRATULATIONS to Green Elementary School’s fourth grader Logan McKerring, (his teacher is Louise Volpe). Logan was named one of four, fourth grade, Grand Prize winners in this year’s City-wide, 18th annual Writing for Literacy, Library Essay Contest, started by our own Jack Winer. “The Book Thief,” was the book he would save if all others were to be destroyed.
