Congratulations to all of our 2019 Summer Reading Program participants. This year, 460 out of 746 San Carlos Branch patrons who registered for the Summer Reading Program, completed their goals. This compares to 303 out of 547 in 2018. WAY TO GO! And keep on reading throughout the year. Attendance at the Wednesday Special Summer Event programs totaled 967. That's up from 768 last year. The winner of this summer’s “Battle of the Book Series” face off between fiction & nonfiction is the Elephant & Piggie series by Mo Willems. 2019's Robotics Showcase Extravaganza was an awe-inspiring success.
Teams with great names like Creator Critters, Dailard Elementary Mechanical Dolphins, Dapper Robo-Noodles, Magnolia Science Academy NextGen and MagnoBricks, Wizalos, Cajon Park B1nary Drag0ns, Crescendo, Lakeside Middle Broncobots and Patrick Henry High Patribots, all showed off the robots that they designed, built, and what they can do. We wish a warm welcome to Olga Castellanos; she is our new part-time, Library Assistant 3. Castellanos has worked for the San Diego Public Library system for 29 years serving in the South Bay. Olga says, " I enjoy hiking and spending time with my husband of 30 years and with my 10-year-old son, both named David. I am excited about working and serving the community at the San Carlos Branch Library."
