SD Libraries Will Lose Funding in 2026

Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on in May.  As a result of the April City Council meetings,  the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding.  As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding will result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday and Monday, which will allow  programs and services to remain the same Tuesday-Saturday. JUNE, 2024: New Branch Library Update, FUNDING SECURED

Many, many THANKS to our SD District 7 Councilperson Raul Campillo for securing, in the  City's Fiscal-Year-2025 budget, $4.7million in funding for the new San Carlos Branch Library. 2023 Updated New SCBL Design

The current updated outside and inside designs of the proposed new San Carlos Branch Library can be seen on the SCFOL website. The new new designs were first revealed to the public at the August 5, 2023, "We bought the Lot" celebration held in the corner lot of Jackson & Golfcrest.  The exterior of the building was designed with the location's surrounding vistas in mind:  Cowles Mountain, Lake Murray, and the Mission Trails Regional Park.  It qualifies as a Gold...
