Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on in May. As a result of the April City Council meetings, the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding. As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding will result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday and Monday, which will allow programs and services to remain the same Tuesday-Saturday.

On Saturday, May 17, the SCBL held its 8th Robotics Extravaganza. Over 263 people attended the show brought to you by the efforts of the San Carlos Branch Library’s Managing Librarian, David Ege as well as 10 robotics teams, Aguirretech flying drones, and the MCAS Miramar Bomb Squad. Saturday, MAY 17, 10 am – 1 pm, the robots are returning to the San Carlos Branch Library. In the library’s lower parking lot, at the corner of Jackson & Golfcrest, 18 Robotic Clubs from local schools and San Diego neighborhoods will display, explain and demonstrate their robot creations. March 4, 2025, San Carlos Area Council (SCAC) President Mickey Zeichick , presented SCFOL Board Member and past Treasurer Jerry Hotz, with a check from SCAC in memory of Jack and Kitty Mones. Jack Mones served the San Carlos Community for more than 15 years, and passed December 20, 1995, followed by Kitty in 2014.

The numbers are in for the 2024 Summer Reading Program for the San Carlos Branch. We had 1190 registrations and 944 finishers. Congratulations to all.
