New SDPL EXCEL Cards for Grades TK-12

  The Student EXCEL Card program is a collaborative effort between San Diego Public Library and San Diego Unified School District with the goal to get a library card in the hands of every student in the district by 2025. Librarian Albert Elguira Retires

Albert Elguira, another favorite librarian, is retiring October 4, 2022.  Albert, an expert chess player, has been encouraging San Carlos youngsters to learn and improve their chess skills at our Chess Club which meets 2nd & 4th Tuesdays from 5-7 pm.  He oversaw the Club's championship competition in Summer of 2022. 1000 Books Before Kindergarten

 A literacy program for pre-readers, ages 5 and under.  1000 Books Before Kindergarten   is a reading incentive program that encourages parents to read 1000 books to their children before they begin Kindergarten.  The program is based upon evidence from research findings that the more young children hear books read to them, the more prepared they will be to learn to read upon reaching kindergarten.
