Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego's final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on June 10. It will not be finalized until signed by San Diego's Mayor Todd Gloria on June 15, 2025
As a result of previous City Council budget meetings, the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding. As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding may result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday...

Our next big SCFOL event was “Just Around the Corner, Craft Fair and Boutique," on Saturday, October 11, 204, from 9:00 to 3:00. Due to Library space restrictions, it was held “just around the corner” at the San Carlos United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall located at the corner of Navajo Rd. and Cowles Mountain Blvd. JAC fliers. Mark your calendars. The annual meeting of the Friends of the San Diego Public Library will be held on September 13, 2014, in the new San Diego Central Library ^Irwin Jacobs Common Auditorium, 330 Park Blvd, San Diego 92101 (this is at Park Blvd and 11th Ave near PETCO Park).

On March 19, about 90 people filled the San Carlos Branch Library to hear the essays and congratulate this year's local San Carlos winners of the Annual Writing for Literacy Library Essay Contest. This annual contest is open to all students, public, private, parochial and home schooled, in grades 4, 8 & 10, who attend a school served by the San Diego Public Library system. Lesley Frazier and her family moved to San Carlos in October of 1980. In the spring of 1982, then Managing Librarian Ruth Gardner decided that the San Carlos Branch Library, which opened on January 9, 1974, needed a Chapter of the Friends of the Library. She invited some of the branch’s regular patrons and volunteers to join. Lesley became a charter member and the first editor of the SCFOL Newsletter. Betty Sherman was the first President of SCFOL.
