On Tuesday morning about 7:00 a.m., Mr. Lubert Jones a Volunteer with the San Carlos Friends of the Library has passed away. Since April 2012, Mr. Jones became a resident at the Grossmont Gardens in La Mesa due to sudden health conditions. He was eighty-four (84) years old.
He assisted us each month after the Book Sales on transporting our excess Library Materials. Mr. Jones enjoyed and looked forward each month by contributing his time with the San Carlos Branch Library. ... Continue Reading >

It is with deep regret that we announce that John McAllister, President of the Friends of the San Diego Public Library, passed away on December 2 [San Diego Union-Tribune obituary].
John was born August 31, 1932, in New York, growing up in the Bronx neighborhood. He and his wife Carol moved to San Diego in the late 1950s and quickly became involved in the community.

At a recent Board Meeting, SCFOL President, Judy McCarty, presented Steve Dissinger, son of Lois Dissinger, with a life-time membership in the San Carlos Chapter of the San Diego Friends of the Library. Steve honored his mother's Trust provision with a gift of $5000 to SCFOL from the Lois Dissinger Trust. Lois was a long-time Board Member, Newsletter Editor , and supporter of the SCFOL.
