SD Libraries Will Lose Funding in 2026

Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego's final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on June 10.  As a result of previous City Council budget meetings,  the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding.  As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding may result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday and Monday, but will allow  programs and services to remain the same Tuesday-Saturday. MAY 5: City-wide Essay Contest Award Ceremony

The four Grand Prize Winners at each grade level of the City-wide, 19th Annual Student "Writing For Literacy Library Essay Contest," will be announced during a ceremony on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the Balboa Park Club. Each student will receive a monetary award plus a laptop computer courtesy of Computer 2 SD Kids.
