MAY Artist: Ernie Orfila

From May 1-June 3, the gorgeous and intriguing mixed media art of Ernest Orfila will be on display in the Winer family Community Room and Art Gallery of the San Carlos Branch Library. A sixth generation Californian, Ernest Orfila was born in Los Angeles, received his B.S. in Social Sciences and M.A. in American Studies at SDSU.  His Artist Reception will be held on Saturday, May 25, noon-2 p.m.  Please join us in viewing the works of this talented artist.  Click on May Artist

In the 1970s, Orfila studied stained glass under John Wallis in Pasadena,  worked as a glazier and designer at Donovan Stained Glass Studio, and in 1975 established Orfila Stained Glass. For twelve year, Ernie was the designer for Alpine Stained Glass, then the largest studio in San Diego. His stained glass works have been installed in churches, hotels, casinos, and numerous residences from  Los Angeles to Tijuana.   During Ernie’s eclectic career, he taught creativity courses and workshops at a variety of venues including Walt Disney Studio, recreation centers, art centers, and SDSU. Orfila’s shows and awards are too numerous to list here, but we’re sure you have seen his works somewhere- sometime during his 50+ years of creating stain glass and other works of art.

The artist leaves us with this thought. “These digital photographic and painted images celebrate an immersion into the permeable flux and flow of the great beauty in which we are immersed.  With little irony, it can be said that art is a lie that tells the truth.”  Ernie Orfilia
