APRIL Artist: Patty Palenschat
Portraits by Patty Palenschat will be on display April 3-29, in the Winer Family Community Room & Art Gallery of the San Carlos Branch Library. 
Palenschat creates realistic sculptures and paintings of people and animals. Her subjects come to life on canvas, including her own self portrait. Although not on display, there will be photographs to view of some of her completed sculptures. Check them out at her reception. Palenschat is not planning to have an artist reception. Born in Philadelphia, Palenschat has lived most of her life in San Diego. As early as five years of age, Patty found herself lost in observing the intricacies and beauty of nature and people. Fully immersed in the creative process, Patty could be found singing loudly in the classroom while drawing and painting.
Palenschat attended SDSU learning the academics of Art and graduated with a B.A. in Fine Art from UCLA. She obtained her teaching credential from SDSU. Patty also studied under local artists, including A. Wasil and Mary Buckman, Jorge Egea and Moon Kim. Learning for her is a joy and giving that experience back to her students brings joy to her teaching as well.
After college there were limited openings for art teachers, so Patty embarked on a 30 year career for the U.S. Navy as a Visual Information Specialist. After eight years she became an Education Specialist for the Navy. Throughout her Federal career Palenschat was in touch with many officers and enlisted personnel for which she was commissioned to do numerous portraits and a mural size painting for the Admiral at COMPHIBGRU3 who later became Commander of the Pacific Fleet.
Palenschat has exhibited in Art Walk, Liberty Station, Chula Vista Art Assoc., Bay Front Gallery, Foothills Art and has been commissioned for many sculptures and paintings. Ask her about the life-size sculpture currently monopolizing her creative talents.
