From the Desk of Ann McDonald, FSDPL Past-President
Hello SCFOL Friends,
Many of you have expressed interest in the new Central Library. There was a Dedication Celebration and Sneak Peek on Saturday, September 28, from 11 AM to 6 PM. The Dedication featured a street fair (library and book emphasis), food trucks, rides for children, a Sneak Peek (a walk through) of the auditorium and the first floor of the library which will include the Dr. Seuss decorated Children’s Section. The Central Library fully opened on Monday, September 30, from 9:30 AM – 8:00 PM. (The usual Monday hours are Noon to 8 PM.) The trolley stops one block away.
Dr. Irwin and Joan Jacobs have offered a $10 million challenge grant which would finish paying for the new Central Library and establish an endowment for the library. Donations are tax deductible. If you have been thinking about a donation to the new Central Library, there is no time like the present. Any size donation is welcome. Bricks with engraved names or messages are available for $150, $500, and $1,000. The new Central Library also boasts numerous amazing naming spaces available for recognition. If you are interested, you are encouraged to see what naming opportunities are still available.
There is a standing tour for prospective $5,000-$100,000 donors every Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. The Library Foundation wants to encourage everyone to be part of the dream and make a donation to this wonderful addition to the San Diego region. Let me know if you would like information about giving opportunities or want to schedule a tour, or e-mail Susan Howe at [email protected] or Megan Lim Blair at [email protected] to make arrangements. I know that you are library lovers, so I wanted you to know about the opening of the new Central Library and the Challenge Grant that Dr. Irwin and Joan Jacobs have offered.
All the best, Ann McDonald, Immediate Past President, FSDPL
