Negotiations are still underway before the City of San Diego final 2025-26 fiscal year budget is voted on in May. As a result of the April City Council meetings, the San Diego Public Library system is scheduled to lose $8million in funding. As of July 1, 2025, this loss of funding will result in the closing of all 37 Branch Libraries on Sunday and Monday, which will allow programs and services to remain the same Tuesday-Saturday.

Congratulations to P.H.H.S. 10th grader Victoria Crisologo who was one of the 14 Grand Prize winners of the 19th annual "Student Writing for Literacy Library Essay Contest." She was one of three local winners, out of 266 locally submitted essays, that competed against 1197 city wide entries. In honor of this Summer's Olympians, the San Diego Public Library has chosen, "Read For the Win" as the theme for its 2016 Summer Reading Program. The San Carlos Friends of the Library have lost another Friend. John Pilch passed away on May 3, 2016. John was an avid supporter of our branch library and a very involved volunteer. Although the San Carlos Branch Library opened its doors on January 9, 1974, May 15, 1982 marked the first meeting of the San Carlos Friends of the Library. It was founded by 45 area residents with the expressed mission of “focusing public attention on the library’s services, facilities and needs; to strengthen and expand library services; and to stimulate the use of the library facilities as a cultural resource center for the community."
