APRIL Artist: Katherine Kennedy
April 2-May 5, Katherine (Katie) Kennedy, an emerging La Mesa artist, will have on display her unique oil paintings in the Winer Family Community Room & Art Gallery of the San Carlos Branch Library. Kennedy’s works are a visual storytelling of our everyday surroundings. Join us and Katie on Saturday, April 19, noon-2, for her Artist Reception and learn more about this lovely young woman and her unique artistic expression of our modern-day society in the 2020s.
Kennedy uses a high-chroma palette to capture objects and scenes from everyday life—the small, often overlooked moments that weave together the fabric of our lives. Kennedy tells us, “I believe that art can serve as a mirror to society, inviting viewers to reflect, empathize, and connect with the shared human experience.”
Katherine considers herself a “community-taught” artist. She took her first art class, Intro to Drawing, through the Redlands Art Association in 2021. At the time, she was working in healthcare but spent her free time watching instructional YouTube videos and practicing drawing with graphite and charcoal. In 2022, she began painting, taking a painting class, studying art books, and consuming hundreds of hours of YouTube art instruction. Learning from the community of artists before and around her and with the support from her family, she dedicated every single day to her art practice.
Katherine now paints full-time and has connected with art enthusiasts and collectors throughout San Diego County, and through social media, with those across the country and internationally.
