FEBRUARY 5 – MARCH 29: Colleen Swesey
We are excited to have Colleen Swesey exhibiting her many beautiful quilts in the San Carlos Branch Library’s Winer Family Community Room and Art gallery from February 5 through March 29. Swesey does not belong to quilting or art guilds but considers herself an artist and prefers to work alone. Colleen made her husband a quilt as a wedding gift over 50 years ago and has been quilting ever since. Please join us at Swesey’s Artist Reception to be held on Saturday, March 15, noon-2 p.m. in our Art gallery.
Colleen tells us, “As an artist, I like to hang my quilts on the wall. I have been sewing for as long as I remember whether making blankets for my baby dolls or sewing clothes for my Barbie’s. I have always been creative. I enjoy working with wool when I make my quilts. I also enjoy embroidery and use it a lot in my projects. It is very relaxing for me to sit and stitch.
My favorite quilt is called Nocturnal and I am so proud of it. I have three sisters who are also very creative and we get together yearly to celebrate life as well as create together. Carrie Wilson from Swirls and Curls does my long arm finishing on all my quilts.
My husband and I have lived in San Diego since we married. I am a retired teacher and have three children and five grandchildren who keep us busy. We enjoy hiking and walk at Lake Murray most mornings. We grew up in Washington State and travel there once a year to see family as well as to find new areas to hike in.”
