2023 Updated New SCBL Design
The current updated outside and inside designs of the proposed new San Carlos Branch Library can be seen on the SCFOL website. The new new designs were first revealed to the public at the August 5, 2023, “We bought the Lot” celebration held in the corner lot of Jackson & Golfcrest.
The exterior of the building was designed with the location’s surrounding vistas in mind: Cowles Mountain, Lake Murray, and the Mission Trails Regional Park. It qualifies as a Gold Level- LEAD structure. It is designed for ZERO net energy usage…100% solar.
The structure is single story, making use of the current lot and continuing over the corner lot where 32 parking spaces will be available at street level but under the structure; 42 parking spaces will be available on the upper lot for a total of 74 parking spaces. A convenient elevator is available for use by those parking under the structure. The main entrance is located off of the top parking area.
The Community Room, which will be accessible for community events even when the library is closed, will comfortably hold over 200 people. Its entrance is the white wall on the right side of the picture on the right.
Here are some renderings of the inside open-air design. They and more were on view in the SCBL Community Room & Art Gallery during the Branch’s 50th Anniversary Celebration on January 13, 2024.
