MARCH 4 – MAY 3: Michael Leyva
March 4 – May 3, we will feature artwork by Michael Leyva in the Winer Family Community Room & Art Gallery of the San Carlos Branch Library. Join us in welcoming Mike at his Artist Reception on 3/21, noon – 2:00 p.m.
Working in acrylic on canvas and wood, Mike creates vibrant, colorful paintings inspired by the ocean, coastal landscapes, and botanicals. Focusing on the ocean has become especially meaningful in recent years. As a recent stage 4 cancer survivor, painting has served as a form of therapy — a way to stay connected to the water during three years sidelined from surfing. The ocean remains both subject and solace, bringing joy and grounding to each piece.
The artist hopes viewers will find a sense of escape in the work — perhaps recalling a favorite coastline, a memory of the sea, or simply enjoying the color and energy of the painting.
Active throughout North County San Diego, Mike recently exhibited in the California Surf Culture group show at the Oceanside Museum of Art and currently has work on display from Solana Beach to San Clemente at Naked Cafe and Beachfire Grill. A painting will also be featured next month in the Tiki Oasis group show in Scottsdale, Arizona.
