SCAC Gives Donation to SCFOL
March 4, 2025, San Carlos Area Council (SCAC) President Mickey Zeichick , presented SCFOL Board Member and past Treasurer Jerry Hotz, with a check from SCAC in honor of the memory of Jack and Kitty Mones. Jack Mones served the San Carlos Community for more than 15 years, and passed December 20, 1995, followed by Kitty in 2014.
Wednesday, November 15, 1995, was proclaimed, by the City of San Diego, “Jack Mones Day.” Mones was recognized for his accomplishments in support of San Carlos and the Navajo region. The proclamation was submitted to the San Diego City Council by our then City Council person and later, a SCFOL President, Judy McCarty. The Proclamation highlighted Mones’ work with the Lake Murray Community Park Task Force that oversaw the development of the 58 acre park. This task force is why, at Lake Murray, we have a park with ball fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, and walk/bike paths. Mones served as a member of the Park and Recreation Department’s Central Committee and was the Lake Murray Recreation Council’s first President; a founding member of SCAC and its President from 1988-1990. He fought against the Sander project, highrises in San Carlos, and the preservation of our environment, especially Cowles Mountain and Navajo Canyon. We thank SCAC for their generous donation to SCFOL in memory of Jack & Kitty Mones and SCAC’s continued support of our current branch library and of our proposed new branch which will serve as the flagship branch for the entire Navajo region.
