SEPTEMBER 3-NOVEMBER 3: Artists Jo Ann Bray & Linda Morton

During September and October, we are thrilled to have the paintings of two award winning artists, Jo Ann Bray and Linda Morton, on display in the Winer Family Community Room and Art Gallery of the San Carlos Branch Library.  Both of these artists love to travel and their paintings will take you along with them, capturing moments in time.  Their Artist Reception will be held September 20, noon-2pm.  Click Sept/Oct Artists.

Painting has been Jo Ann Bray’s passion since childhood. At the age of 6, borrowing her father’s oil paints, she completed her first painting, a Flintstones cartoon. Supported by her parents,  Bray has studied various mediums, but working with oils is her favorite. Bray says, “Oil allows me to work with greater creativity and have more vibrancy than acrylics and watercolors. Early on, I was inspired by the paintings of John Sloan, Moses Soyer, and Edward Hopper. People and everyday scenes are my favorite subjects.

“I try to capture their everyday moments, vulnerabilities, emotions, and individuality in my work using light and color.”

Bray studied fine arts at the California College of Arts and Crafts, the University of Northern Colorado, and the San Diego Art Academy.  Jo Ann tells us, “I am honored to have won awards for my art from the Foothills Art Association, IIDA, and the San Diego County Fair.” View more of Bray’s Figurative Oils at Joannbray.com, or email Bray at [email protected].

Linda Morton describes her works as, “Contemporary Impressionism.”  To Morton, “This style of painting emphasizes an emotional moment through use of light and shadow, conveyed by energetic, colorful brush strokes.” Her award winning art, in both oil and acrylic, is exhibited in galleries throughout San Diego and Southern California.  Morton”s most recent honor was winning the People’s Choice Award at the National Wildlife Show, sponsored by the Foothills Gallery in La Mesa.

Morton has combined her 30-year experience as a law professor with her painting knowledge and skills, by offering painting workshops and private sessions for the beginner painter at her studios in La Mesa and Julian.
