SCFOL needs new Board Members and Committee Chairpersons.
Who are the San Carlos Friends of the Library? SCFOL is a volunteer organization open to everyone in any age-group. SCFOL is an Affiliate Chapter of the Friends of the San Diego Public Library, a 501 (c)(3) organization, currently numbering 250 members. Fifty volunteers actively support the monthly book sales and 10 serve as SCFOL Officers, Board Members or Committee Chairs.
Although the San Carlos Branch Library opened its doors on January 9, 1974, May 15, 1982 marked the first meeting of the San Carlos Friends of the Library, founded by 45 area residents with the expressed mission of “focusing public attention on the library’s services, facilities and needs; to strengthen and expand library services; and to stimulate the use of the library facilities as a cultural resource center for the community.” To this day, SCFOL’s mission remains the same.
Currently, half of the very committed volunteer SCFOL Board has served in their positions for 10 to 20+ years. While they each found their involvement very rewarding, they know it’s time for a new generation to to push forward with the plans for the new Branch Library. Quite frankly, age and health issues are catching up with us all. to this end, the Board is asking each of you to consider filling an imminent vacancy while the current volunteers are still available to assist you during the transition period. Most immediate needs are SCFOL Officer position of Secretary, and a Membership Chairperson who could also serve on the SCFOL Board or not (your choice). The Publicity Chair is looking for a person with Word Press website and Go-Daddy experience to share duties with in updating and maintaining the website and newsletter publication. Future needs will include Book Sale Chairperson and Board Members.
