Kids 2018 “ONE BOOK” Selection
The companion 2018, “One Book” chosen for kids is “Blue Sky, White Stars.” It is a picture book written by Sarvinder Naberhaus and illustrated by New York Times bestselling and Caldecott-honor winning artist Kadir Nelson. “Deceptively simple verses pair with richly evocative images of American history, landscape, and people.”
One Book, One San Diego is our region’s premiere literary program, presented in partnership between KPBS and over 80 public libraries, service organizations and educational institutions. Now in its 12th year, the purpose is to bring our community closer together through the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. The 2018 selection is ” March: Book One.” This graphic memoir is the first of a trilogy,written by Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell. “March: Book One,” is a vivid first-hand account of the early life of the Civil Rights icon, John Lewis, including meeting Martin Luther King, Jr. and the birth of the Nashville Student Movement. John Lewis and other student activists drew inspiration from the 1958 comic book “Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story.”
