2025 Membership Meeting Recap

Librarian David Ege provides a recap of the year’s events.

The San Carlos Branch Friends of the Library held its 2025 Annual Membership Meeting this week, bringing members together to celebrate another year of community support and library advocacy.

Members approved the 2026 Board of Officers, setting the stage for another active year. The group also discussed plans for next year’s events, including more creative use of the lower parking lot to host gatherings and increase community engagement.

Volunteers were warmly thanked for their ongoing dedication, and Life Members were recognized for their long-standing support. We heard a recap of the past year of events at the library, from librarian David Ege.

A highlight of the meeting was a talk by Richard Lederer, who charmed the audience with his trademark wit and reflections on the joy of reading. As he put it, “You know you’re a dyed-in-the-wool book lover if you were that kid who got excited when your teacher asked the class to read silently for a half hour.”

He also reminded everyone why libraries matter so deeply, noting that “You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy books—and that’s pretty much the same thing.”

Laughs all around during Lederer’s talk.

The meeting wrapped with a sense of gratitude and enthusiasm for the year ahead—one filled with books, community, and plenty of library-loving energy.
