MAY 7- JUNE 2: Artist Marietta Cohen

May 7 – June 2, we are very pleased to have the beautiful paintings of Marietta Cohen on display in the Winer Family Community Room & Art Gallery of the San Carlos Branch Library.  Her watercolors and acrylics bring such a feeling of calm to viewers. we’re sure you will like to add one to your collection.  Join us in welcoming Marietta to our Southern California community of artists by joining her at her Artist Reception, May 17, noon – 2:00 p.m.

Cohen was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1968, during the communist regime. Her art studies and immigration to the United States took 34 years with several stops along the way.  She began her art studies at the Academy of Art in Sofia for a year, continued them in Moscow’s Art school for another year, and graduated in 1986 after majoring in textile design.

In 1989, Marietta emigrated to Israel, and in 1996, earned a Bachelor degree in textile design. Until 2002, Marietta was employed as a textile designer in Israel;  that was the year  she and her husband, also a Bulgarian immigrant, emigrated to San Diego.  They loved it here; but after 2 years, her husband’s work permit required them to relocate to the Bay Area.  They vowed to return.  It took them 17 years of living in the Bay Area before they were able to return to SoCal and settle in beautiful Del Mar.

Her gorgeous paintings reflect their love of the sea.  The Cohens have two children: daughter Julie is a sophomore at SDSU, son Daniel is 14,  and don’t forget their funny chihuahua, Zuzu.  Contact Cohen at [email protected]
