NOVEMBER Artist: Cynthia McVey
November 6 – December 2, Cynthia McVey’s whimsical collages will be the talk of all who visit her show in the SCBL Winer Family Community Room & Art Gallery. Learn more about where her ideas come from and her technique at her Artist Reception November 23, noon-2 pm.
McVey tells us, “I have always loved stickers and never really knew what to do with them until I discovered making collages. I love how colors, themes, and materials come together to make an interesting vignette. This display uses a variety of materials, including stickers, craft paper, washi tape, sealing wax, fabric, rubber, stamps, charms, and old book pages. My collages all have a theme. It might be a time period, piece of literature, pop culture, a country, a specific color, or nature inspired.” McVey then gives humorous titles to her works to make them even more memorable.
McVey started making collages in 2022. She had always been interested in photography, geology, travel, nature, and natural phenomenon. She has taken art classes including ceramics, bronze sculpture, humanities, and color, form and design. Now retired from her 33 1/2 years as a San Diego Unified School District bus driver, Cynthia is enjoying her extra free time to travel and explore new artistic endeavors. We would like to thank Cynthia for taking such good care of our children for all of those years, and wish her a fun retirement.
