SEPTEMBER Art Show: Hiroshi Hara

September 7-October 1, photographer Hiroshi Hara will be showing his breath taking photographs in the Winer Family Community Room  & Art Gallery of the San Carlos Branch Library. Hiroshi emigrated to the U.S. in 1986, and quickly made San Diego his new home. Hiroshi tells us, “I went to Grossmont College to become a respiratory therapist and have come a long way to be able to establish myself and enjoy life in this lovely San Diego. I worked for 31 years as a respiratory therapist at Sharp Grossmont Hospital and was retired in 2021. As an interesting  highlight during my career, I met Mother Teresa in Scripps Green Hospital.  She held tightly my hands and asked me to go to China with her to rescue the poorest of the poor. I remember she had a great sense of humor.”

As Hara’s interest in photography grew, he reminisces, “I took several semesters of photography at Palomar college and gained new knowledge and skills. I learned how to edit the pictures using the application called Lightroom. The Palomar course I enjoyed most was Dark Room, where we developed films using chemicals. We went through a long process before we finally saw the end product… our own photos! It was so exciting and rewarding.”

Hiroshi uses three cameras: the Cannon AW-1 for B&W film, Cannon EOS T3i and Cannon EOS 6D; and several lenses: the Cannon 70-300mm 1:4-5.6, Cannon 24-105mm 1:4 and Cannon 85mm 1:1.4.

Hara tells us, “I haven’t done much on photography for the last few years. Hopefully my interest in Photography will return and I’ll enjoy it even more than before. Thank you very much for letting me present my photos at the San Carlos library.” We all hope so, as these examples of Hara’s photographic expertise are breathtaking!
