URGENT: Directions for submitting comments to City Council. Subject: Help fight additional library cuts

LibrariesTransform logoDear Library Supporter,
Starting tomorrow, April 30, the City Council will convene as the Budget Review Committee to review the Proposed Fiscal Year 2020 Budget.

We hope you can submit a comment for the April 30 (6:00 p.m.) and May 5 (9:00 a.m.) meetings of the Budget Review Committee. The full agendas of the Budget Review Committee can be viewed here. Since this is a new process for accepting public comments, below are instructions:
To Submit Electronic Comments
To submit comments electronically visit the Budget Review Public Comment webform, select meeting date, mark “Agenda Comment,” and enter the Agenda Item number. For both the April 30 and May 5 meeting, we recommend selecting Agenda Item #2. To submit comments for both meetings, you will be required to submit webforms for each meeting. For comments to be read during the meeting, they must be received fifteen minutes before the meeting begins. Comments received after that time will be submitted into the written record for the relevant item.
To Phone in Public Testimony:
When the Clerk introduces the agenda item you would like to comment on, dial the number below to be placed in the queue. Additional instructions can be read here.   DIAL 619-541-6310   Enter the Access Code: 105579 then press ‘#’.
To Submit Written Materials:
For written comments or to submit an attachment to your comments, email [email protected] or mail to 202 C Street, MS2A, San Diego, CA 92101.

Share with the City Council the following message. As we begin the recovery process, libraries will be relied upon to provide employment, educational, and community resources to severely impacted communities. To ensure the system has the tools and resources necessary to effectively serve the community, we recommend no additional cuts to library hours, materials, and programming budget beyond the already proposed $7 million in reductions.   You can view the meetings on TV (Channel 24 on Cox and Time Warner or Channel 99 on AT&T) or online here

Thank you for your continued support in these challenging times and please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Patrick Stewart CEO, San Diego Public Library Foundation
Joan Reese President, Friends of the San Diego Public Library
Wendy Urushima-Conn,ChairBoard of Library Commissioners
